Every time you give the CPU something to do the fan speeds up to an annoying level. To cut a long story short it was the standard HP Recommended power plan with CPU cooling set to Active (fan proportional to CPU activity). Setting this to Passive (fan proportional to temperature) makes it a much more enjoyable experience and ensures the fan only comes on when the PC gets warm - is not that the way it is supposed to work HP? HP please ship with passive cooling.
